Biodiversity: “We must stop certain fishing practices”, says IUCN – RTL

RTL GUEST – The president of the French committee of the IUCN has denounced certain shark fishing practices, many of which are endangered.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) published its “Red List” on Saturday 4 September, as it does every four years, at the World Conservation Congress in Marseille, in which nearly 30% of the species studied are “threatened”.

Maud Lelièvre, president of the French committee of the IUCN was the guest of RTL this Saturday. “The situation has worsened once again, the red list is getting longer,” she said. “Today we have this emergency situation on the shark. Today in France, we eat sharks without knowing it,” adds Maud Lelièvre.

To get out of this situation, “we absolutely have to impose quotas and stop certain fishing practices, where the fin is cut off and the shark is killed without being eaten,” continues the president of the French IUCN committee.
